The Bridgewater College field hockey team, which entered the postseason tournament as the No. 5 seed, dropped a 2-1 contest with the No 4 seed, Roanoke, at Kerr Stadium on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Roanoke had the first chances of the game throughout the first quarter as the Maroons had a shot off a penalty corner just two minutes into the game, but it went wide. RC had two more shots in the opening 15 minutes and held the Eagles without a chance.
• Despite not having a recorded shot in the first quarter, the Eagles were the first team on the board as Emily Tyler found the back of the cage just under seven minutes into the second period. The Maroons responded with a burst of offense with three quick shots as one hit the post and went back to a Roanoke forward that was put on net and was pushed aside by Meredyth Rankin for a defensive save to preserve the 1-0 lead. After a penalty corner, the Eagles' defense blocked two more shots until Saige Bullock got a shot past the BC goalie to tie the game just before halftime.
• Midway through the third quarter, the Eagles earned a penalty corner and got a shot on frame, but the ensuing counterattack by the Maroons resulted in a go-ahead score, once again scored by Bullock, this time coming with an assist by Grace Vernarelli, 2-1.
• The Eagles pushed the pace offensively in the last few minutes of regulation garnering a few chances, including a pair of penalty corners in the waning moments and several shots, but none of them went on target as the Maroons were able to hold on for a 2-1 win.

MATCH STATS

• Tyler was the goal scorer for the Eagles, while Carynn Klingler registered three shots.
• Roanoke outshot Bridgewater 24-4 including 8-2 in shots on goal.
• Madalyn Miller played the first half and made one save, while Harley Hoffman came in for the second half and stopped three shots. For Roanoke, Madison Wingerter stopped one of the two shots she faced.
• Rankin recorded two defensive saves.
