The Bridgewater women's basketball team picked up its fifth win in a row to start the season after taking down Wilson 75-46 on Sunday.

The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 75, Wilson 46

Records: Bridgewater 5-0, Wilson 2-3

How It Happened

  • BC got the opening score of the game when Reagan Maynard found Jaden Alsberry in the lane just under 90 seconds in. The Eagles extended the opening run to 8-0 as Erika Nettles laid it in with 6:14 to go in the first quarter. Wilson got on the board 28 seconds later with a layup to get on the scoreboard. Both teams traded buckets to close out the quarter with Bridgewater taking a 18-9 advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes.
  • Jay Garcia got the second quarter started in the scoring department. The freshman grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in. The Phoenix responded with a bucket of their own on the next possession and followed it up with a three-pointer to cut the lead to six. Garcia scored again to spark a 20-9 run for BC to end the half. Abby Freeman and India Dailey each tallied six points during the stretch making it 40-23 at the intermission.
  • Bridgewater opened the second half on a 7-0 run. Maynard drove to the lane and laid it in to start the half and Nettles did much of the same on the next BC possession. Corcoran topped it off with a jumper from long range to stretch the lead to 47-23 with 7:46 to play in the third quarter.
  • Wilson was held without a field goal for 9:48 until Laela Robinson took a rebound coast to coast with 1:22 to go in the third quarter to snap the drought. The Bridgewater defense responded with another field goal drought, holding the Phoenix without a field goal for another 2:33 until Samira Murphy sank the first basket of the fourth quarter.
  • The Phoenix put together back-to-back buckets to open the frame but shot just 2/11 over the final eight minutes. BC closed the game on a 22-10 run led by Nettles who had seven over the stretch and Chassidy King added four of her own.

Match Notes

  • Corcoran led all scorers with a career high 17 points in the win. Dailey and Nettles each racked up 11 and Alsberry earned a double-double with 10 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Alsberry also racked up a game high five assists.
  • Murphy led Wilson in two of the three major statistical categories with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • Corcoran had one of the most efficient nights possible shooting 7/10 from the floor, including 50% from beyond the arc. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native also racked up four rebounds, a block and a steal.
  • BC held a healthy 54-33 advantage in rebounds including 20 offensive rebounds.
  • The Eagles open the season 5-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season. That squad finished 22-4 including 11-0 in Nininger Hall under coach Jean Willi. Oddly enough, that team was knocked out by Guilford in the ODAC Quarterfinals who was coached by none other than Stephanie Flamini.
