There were five American Indian students enrolled in Harrisonburg City Public Schools District in the 2023-24 school year, 16.7% less than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Data showed that Harrisonburg City Public Schools District welcomed 6,792 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.1% of the student body to be the second least represented ethnicity in the school.

Harrisonburg City Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Harrisonburg City and has a main office in Harrisonburg.

Among the nine schools in Harrisonburg City Public Schools District, Waterman Elementary School, Stone Spring Elementary School, and Smithland Elementary School welcomed only one American Indian student in the 2023-24 school year.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
