Highland County schools welcomed 18 4th-grade students in 2023-24 school year

There were 18 4th-grade students enrolled in Highland County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 5.9% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Highland Elementary School was the only school that welcomed 4th-grade students in the county.

Within Highland County schools, the largest number of students were found in 10th-grade, while 12th-grade had the least students.

Statewide, Highland County ranked 132nd in enrollment numbers. It was also ranked 132nd the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
